We have developed a routine in the morning. We wake up to loud cries of 9 puppies. We then let Fern out to go potty. As soon as Fern is back in the house we dress her in her "outfit." In her outfit she is then instructed to enter the sea of screaming puppies. She does this by hopping on one chair, crossing over the barrier onto another chair on the other side, and then carefully lowering herself into the mass of puppies. She immediately heads to the whelping box, simultaneously being attacked by miniature wookies. We have to help her lay down. The attach doesn't subside for at least 10 minutes, until then they chew on her face, beard and ears. This choreographed maneuvering is all so we can pick up 8 hours worth of poop and pee from the night before. I will spare you the detailed gore of what it is like but let just say it could make an episode of Dirty Jobs.
My mom is here visiting from Vermont and we are having a lot of fun together already. She is going to help me bring the crew to the Vet today to get there 6 week vaccinations. This will be pravo/distemper. I will also have the Vet check Fern out to see how the Mastitis is fairing. Fern is feeling ooooo so much better. The area on her mammary actually ruptured but this is apparently normal as the infection has to drain. Fern has even begun to really play with the puppies, she nibbles and chases them.
